COMMERCIAL ⎸TECHNOLOGY
National Ignition Facility - LLNL
The U.S. Department of Energy and Lawrence Livermore National Labs constructed this state-of-the-art research and development facility used for research in inertial confinement fusion. The facility is the size of a football stadium that houses 192 laser beamlines that run the length of the facility and direct their energy inside the target chamber upon a fusion capsule the size of a BB. The National Ignition Facility is the world’s largest laser and the world’s largest optical instrument with a powerful laser system equal to 1,000 times the electrical generating power of the United States.

Golden 1 Center Arena
The Golden 1 Center is the new home for the Sacramento Kings which is located in the heart of downtown Sacramento at the demolished Downtown Plaza Mall. Golden 1 Center is LEED Gold and was envisioned as an iconic multi-use Entertainment and Sports Center (ESC) that will be an interactive “smart” building with the best in innovation and technology. The building frame consists of structural steel/braced frame construction, seats approximately 18,000 people and have a total gross area of approximately 674,000 square feet. Special attention was given to the event floor with a single-ply waterproofing membrane, to secure a “bathtub type effect” at the mat slab. POWER ⎸WATER
Russell City Energy Center
The Russell City Energy Center is a 619-megawatt combined-cycle electric generating facility that services western Alameda county and the San Francisco peninsula. The electricity generated from this facility is sold to Pacific Gas and Electric Company, and serves the needs of 600,000 households. The Energy Center uses natural gas for fuel, allowing for a greater than 90% reduction of emissions and is 40% more fuel efficient than older, fossil-fueled generating facilities in the Bay Area. As part of the emission controls, the facility uses 100% reclaimed water from the City of Hayward’s Water Pollution Control Facility for cooling and boiler makeup. This environmentally responsible process conserves water and prevents nearly four million gallons of wastewater per day from being discharged into the San Francisco Bay.
